2009 In the Cold Light of Day: Energy-Saving Lamps
By Wolfgang Maes, Initiator of the Building Biology Evaluation Guidelines, Neuss, Germany
This article discusses the 20 disadvantages of compact fluorescent lamps, focusing on the detrimental EMF emissions, irritating light flicker, and poor light quality. BAUBIOLOGIE MAES and partners have been performing tests on CFLs for the consumer magazine Öko-Test for a long time. They reported high harmonic distortions and EMF emission already back in 1992. The numerous oscilloscope graphs and spectrum analyses of this article are from their latest test in 2008.
